Regular Training Sessions
Steel City Striders have regular training days throughout the week at various locations around the city.
There is no obligation to join the club before you try out a training session. Just come down and run with us for free, see if you like it, no pressure. However, if you do continue to run with us after a few weeks, we expect you will join the club. This is to be fair to club members and is also important for things like club insurance.
If it’s your first time then let us know in advance, we’ll look out for you. Or just turn up on the night if you want and introduce yourself to the run leaders.
If you want to ask questions about any session either contact the relevant session leader listed below or head over to the Striders Facebook group and say hello, we won’t bite. 🙂

Please note: we welcome all new runners, and will never leave anyone behind on one of our training runs. But if you cannot run for an hour or take longer than 70 minutes to run a 10k we would advise you definitely get in touch before joining us on a training run. We don’t want you to struggle or not enjoy the run so one of our 5k to 10k groups may be more suitable. Also, as the majority of our training runs are in the evening or after dark, for your own safety please wear high visibility clothing otherwise you won’t be able to run with us. Monday Night Heeley
Weekly training session, road (some off road in summer).
Where: Serhat Furniture Store car park, opposite Heeley Swimming Pool, Broadfield Road, S8 0XQ
When: Meet at 18.20 for a 18.30 start. Some sessions may start slightly later at 19:00, see the Striders Facebook group for details.
Facilities: There are shower and changing facilities at Heeley Swimming Pool, and there is a car park next to the baths (opposite Tesco Express). Note: changing and showers are free for Fitness Unlimited members, £2.00 for Lifecard holders and £2.50 for everyone else. Non Fitness Unlimited members must report to reception / gym to make the payment. All users will then be issued a ticket to give to the gym staff, so the venue is aware of who and how many runners are using the showers/change facilities.

Tuesday Daytime Millhouses
Daytime runs take place on the roads and trails around Millhouses Park and vary from week to week.
Where: Millhouses Park car park, S7 2QQ
When: Meet at 09.20 for drills ahead of the 09:30 start. Finish around 11.00.
Facilities: Parking. No toilets or changing so arrive ready to run.

Tuesday Night Speed Millhouses
Speed sessions to help you get stronger and faster: intervals, fartlek, hills and more. They take place on the roads and trails around Millhouses Park and vary from week to week.
Where: Millhouses Park car park, S7 2QQ
When: Meet at 18.50 for a 19.00 start. Finish around 20.45.
Facilities: Parking. No toilets or changing so arrive ready to run.

Tuesday Night Fell Run
A weekly session at various locations across Sheffield and the Peak District. It will be an all inclusive run and is meant to encourage Striders members to take part in more off road/fell running. See the Striders Members Facebook Group and weekly bulletin for further details.
Where: Various locations (see the Striders Members Facebook Group and the email bulletin for details).
When: Meet at 18.50 for a 19.00 start. Finish around 20.30.
Facilities: Meeting points will usually be at or near a pub or car park so there should be car parking and toilets.

Wednesday Night Graves
Weekly training session. On road in winter and moving to the trails and off-road in summer.
Where: Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, Bochum Parkway, Norton, S8 8JR
When: Meet at 18:50 for a 19.00 start.
Facilities: Parking and changing rooms with showers and lockers (£1).

Wednesday Night Hillsborough
Weekly training session. On road in winter and moving to the trails and off-road in summer.
Where: Hillsborough Park (main entrance at the bottom of the park), Parkside Rd, Sheffield, S6 2AB
When: Meet at 18:50 for a 19.00 start.
Facilities: Street parking ONLY. Please do NOT use the leisure centre car park.

Thursday Night Track Woodbourn Road
Interval sessions on the track. Sessions vary from week to week.
Where: SHU Athletics Stadium, Woodbourn Road, Sheffield, S9 3LQ
When: Two groups at 18:00 and 19:00
Facilities: Parking and toilets. Fee for using track (currently £5.00 or free with Hallam Active membership).

Thursday Night Strength and Speed Hillsborough
Strength and speed sessions to help you get stronger and faster by concentrating on technique, form and strength. The sessions vary each week and take place within Hillsborough Park and on the surrounding roads.
Where: Hillsborough Leisure Centre main entrance
When: Meet at 18:20 for a 18.30 start. Finish around 19:30.
Facilities: Street parking ONLY. Please do NOT use the leisure centre car park.

Other additional sessions
There are several other training groups that run frequently, but not every week or only at certain times of the year. They are organised independently by club members and are not formal club sessions.
