Sherwood Pines 10km – Sunday 16th March 2025

Race report by Dave Beech

This was another of the multi-distance race events that seem to be so popular at the moment. This event organised by the Nice Work team had a choice of 10km, half marathon and full marathon. I chose to enter the former distance which consisted of one loop of the Sherwood Pines Forest Country Park, which is situated next to the Centre Parcs Resort of the same name and just a couple of miles from the Nottinghamshire town of Edwinstowe.

The weather was perfect for racing: cool, frosty in parts, but with a lovely late winter sunshine to give the air some warmth. The undulating course was completely off road taking in the trails and paths though the forest area. I ran two equal 5km segments so got the pacing just right. I was more than happy with 31st out of 274 runners and 1st in my age category (and 1st in the age group above!) given the nature of the terrain and the fact that I had a few weeks off running in January and am only just regaining my lost fitness from that period.
