Wickersley Chase 2024 Race Report and Results

Race Date: Sunday 1st September 2024
Race Report by Jed Turner

The Wickersley Chase is a 4.5mile trail race, part of the KMR series, of which there are 12 trail races throughout the year, and this one being the ninth.  The series is hosted by Kimberworth Striders, Maltby Running Club and Rotherham Harriers & AC. This trail race, hosted by Rotherham Harriers is also part of the Striders Trail Run Championship, and many striders turned up, to seek points for their championship aspirations. The next trail race in the series, and also part of the Striders Championship is the Canal Race (hosted by Kimberworth Striders).

The race itself is a two-lap course, through road, woods, trail, tracks, and as you would expect, undulating and challenging, especially the uphill section on lap two. As always, the volunteers and officials did a fantastic job, setting up a well organised course, with clear directions and support.

Striders, as usual were out in force, all looking happy and raring to go. In fact, two photos below as some striders wanted to be photo’d twice. As, far as I could tell everyone ran well, and no doubt individual stories of woe and joy, but all relieved, no doubt when it came to the finish. Afterwards the usual banter and chat about the race, and then head back to the pub for the buffet (and a pint or two for some) and presentation of prizes for the various categories.

I was happy to catch up with some old faces from the past. My run, was fine, considering tired from just coming back from holiday, but nonetheless a good race, and tussle with Colin Earl (age 61), who was making the most of his 3-year age advantage. See photo below of myself leading Colin Earl battling it out along the path. The category for this race was 55-64 so being 64 always a tough ask to beat Phil Morgan who was 9 years younger than me.

The race was won by Dominic Fielding, of the Worksop Harriers in 25:43. The first female finisher was Cat Eddison, of Rotherham Harriers AC in 28:11.

Below are the Striders positions and overall results. Congratulations to everybody that ran:
