Race Date: Sunday 27th December 2023

Organised by Newport & District RC, the Wheaton Aston Roman 10k is a regular fixture in an otherwise sparse local race calendar between Christmas & New Year down in South Staffordshire. A one lap 10k race around the lanes outside the village of Wheaton Aston, starting and finishing by the race HQ at the village school. Last year was freezing cold, this year’s weather challenge was overnight rainfall which left a fair bit of water on the route, particularly on the final kilometre. I got a great race number (333) but I couldn’t match it with a run to challenge my time from last year.

I was the lone Strider among 403 finishers at the Wheaton Aston Roman 10k. The men’s race was won by Henry Webb of Dark Peak Fell Runners in a time of 32:34. Holly Baddeley of Wolves & Bilston AC won the women’s race in a time of 39:17.
