Race Date: Saturday 6th April 2024
Race Report by Ryan Talley
This is the 2nd time I’ve completed this race but I came back so it must be OK. I was using this race and Sheffield half the following day as my last big weekend before London Marathon in 2 weeks.
My plan was to just complete the distance at a comfortable pace to avoid injury. I was running with a friend and we tend to be a lot bit competitive so obviously we set off at a blistering pace (for us) and I kept it up until at about 3k in where I had to stop and fish a stone out of my shoe.
The rest of the course was uneventful other than Monsal trail being quite busy. Unfortunately some walkers and cyclists seemed to purposefully ignore the runners and carried on 4 or 5 abreast! The race itself is a straightforward out and back starting at the old Bakewell station and turning round inside the first tunnel.
There were 160 runners in the 10k, I didn’t see any other Striders there. We were warned at the start that our GPS systems wouldn’t work inside the tunnel so ‘don’t complain the course is short’. My GPS worked perfectly however so this is clearly hit and miss.
After the race we headed to Hassop station cafe for an excellent full English breakfast.
The 10k race was won by Christian Peters of Radcliffe AC in 38:00. The first female home was Mia Derbyshire, also of Radcliffe AC, in 48:07.
I was the only Strider to run the 10k, here is my result:
Position | Name | Category | Time |
21 | Ryan Talley | Male Vet 55 | 00:50:25 |
There was also a half marathon distance, which was won by new Strider Rob Ireson in 01:20:19 – brilliant running Rob! The first female over the finish line was Hannah Walker of Dronfield Running Club in 01:28:37
2 Striders took part in the half on Saturday. Here are their results:
Position | Name | Category | Time |
1 | Rob Ireson | Male Vet 40 | 01:20:19 |
32 | Rosie Andrew | Senior Female | 01:44:24 |
Well done to everyone who ran!
