Race Date: Wednesday 1st May 2024
For race #3 of the SYCAA Road League 2024 we headed back to Barnsley and the village of Worsbrough (not far from Elsecar of Race #1).
The race: Runners are sheperded from the grounds of the Worsbrough Sports & Development Association club house into a marshalled but open road, moments before the gun; it’s easy to get bogged down in the crowd. Notable features of the route include a stop-you-in-your-tracks hill just after the 4km (or 2.5 mile) mark, and a long descent on pavement lasting almost 3km to the finish. Rather than returning to the club, runners take a sharp left into Worsbrough Mill car park for one final 300 metre push.
50 Striders lined up at Worsbrough. With one race to go, Barnsley AC are on for a first place clean sweep, as once again Kai Sunman (26:33) and Ruby Sykes (29:32) won the men’s and women’s races respectively.
