Race Date: Thursday 9th May 2024
The Spencers Dash is a long established (over 20 years) annual three race series which starts in Barugh Green (just outside Barnsley). It is a 3.8 mile (“keep turning left”) loop run mostly on open road/pavements with a short uphill stony trail section. After a gentle downhill section from the start, there are 3 significant climbs (which total 105m on strava). The most notable is the long straight drag (under the M1) to the finish line, (somewhere just around the last gently sweeping bend).
The race dates for 2024 are: Thursday May 9th, Thursday July 11th and Thursday August 29th, so there’s still time to catch this pleasant rolling run (nothing too steep either up or down).
To be in with a shout of a prize, you need to run all three races. Times of each race are added together to calculate the winners, which are presented after the last race.
There is some parking near the clubhouse with more space, if needed, on Claycliffe Business Park, Cannon Way, Barugh Green, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 1JU.
Despite the 7pm start, it was still a very warm evening, with little if any breeze. Finish line water was also available to the faster runners (like Andy).
Thanks go to Barnsley AC for organising this enjoyable and popular event and to the many enthusiastic marshals at key points on the course. The male race winner was Gareth Cooke of Barnsley AC in 20.21. Female race winner was Naomi Drakeford, also of Barnsley AC in 23.47
