Race Date: Sunday 22nd September 2024
The annual Sheffield Way relays took place on Sunday 22nd September. There were 20 teams and 4 ultra runners, making as grand total of 204 runners enjoying some part – or all – of a pretty grizzly day at times. For me, Stanage was interesting. A Sunday morning with a lack of people, due to the weather. Visibility was nill, the misty was wet and the wind was strong. Not a day to be up there unless you had to be. That was probably why I only saw 2 people up there.
The Ultra is a wonderful route of 47 miles and I highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in running longer distances. You can’t go far wrong with a free race circumnavigating Sheffield.
Huge thanks must go out to the long list of volunteers who spent their morning/afternoon/both standing out to cheer us on and check us in. It was lovely to see Helen Smith pop up in a couple of places. Massive kudos to race organiser Steve Haake and race director on the day, Ben Heller. Evem more thanks for the pint of shandy he bought me at The Bridge in at Ford to help me with the start of leg five.
