Saturday 21st – Sunday 22nd September
I know the rule, nothing new on race day. So I’m not quite sure why I went with a new flavour of my favourite electrolite drink! It didn’t go down well, and it had quite an effect. Yes, I had the usual ups and downs, just like any distance race, but I never really recovered mentally, and was in survival mode for far too long. I think that once you’re in that place, everything seems to take the opportunity to go wrong: my GPS watch battery died, my primary head torch died, my phone battery died, and I made a couple of navigational errors during the night (which I really shouldn’t have done, given that this was my 6th time running this race). When the 5 hours of un-scheduled torrential rain came along, my decision to wear road shoes felt like a very bad decision indeed – but it was only one of the many things that didn’t go to plan on the day. This is where stubbornness is a great asset, and i ground out my least impressive 100 mile performance, safe in the knowledge that I’ll quickly forget how horrible it was, and almost certainly do it all again.
Robin Hood 100 – 2026 is already on sale via Sientries. Expect to see my name on the entry list shortly!
The race was won by Menna Evans in a time of 18:10.05. The first male (yes, you read that right), and second overall, was Daniel Thomas (West End Runners) in a time of 18:52.20.
