Personal worst for one hour!
Race report by Tony Bell
2 weeks earlier I pulled my left hamstring at the Millhouses parkrun. I was able to jog in at the end, and I have been able to keep training easily since then. I was worried about doing this race, I didn’t want to make my hamstring any worse. However, it being a track race I could easily drop out, if things got too bad.
So, after volunteering at the Millhouses parkrun in the morning, off I went over the Pennines. I did 2 slow laps of the track to warmup, left knee a bit sore but not too bad. 7 walkers lined up, I took it easy from the start. I just sat in 4th place to 5.9km, then I gradually speeded up, by 6.3km I was in 2nd and I kept going to the end. I finished with a distance of 8313m, my knee and hamstring was a bit sore but I survived. 900m slow to recover
Photo shows me (green shorts) walking easily in 4th place early in the race
