Holmfirth 10k – 13th October 2024

Race report by Hannah Wright

Terrain: Undulating road

This year I fancied a change from the usual race on the same date. I still wanted to run and I didn’t want FOMO so I booked onto the Holmfirth 10km.

On the morning of the race my legs were still fatigued after Cardiff HM and the curse of the October sniffles had appeared. I did not feel ready or motivated for the morning race. Had my usual cuppa and a chocolate hobnob and made my way. I even dragged a colleague of mine along as he is trying to get into running.

Race HQ was easy to find and there were indoor toilets (always a bonus). I was thankful the radiators were on as I had decided to wear a vest in the cold weather.

The route:

The start line was on Dunford Road in Hade Edge where we all huddled together for the race briefing. The route then climbs gently up to Harden. It then drops down to Winscar and runs along the edge of the Reservoir before a second climb brings you up from Dunford Bridge on Winscar Edge. There is a water station available at this section.

The route then turns left back onto Dunford Road where it undulates gently before a very quick final 2km brings you back down into Hade Edge where the race finishes with a lap of the recreation ground.

Back in the Scout Hut there were bacon sarnies, cuppa tea and cake available to purchase. I felt I had earnt a bacon sarnie and a cuppa. I was very impressed with the goodie bag… it contained a reusable drinks cup.

Despite not feeling 100% the support throughout got me through. The views were stunning and I will be back next year.
