Higham Hurtles are a series of three 5 mile trail runs, organised by Barnsley Harriers on Thursday nights, kicking off at 6.30 from Higham Cricket Club, just by Junction 37 of the M1.
I last did one in 2022 when it was on the Trail Race Champs, so on that occasion there were a smattering of Striders present, but this time NONE, except me. Bit odd to be a lone Strider in a South Yorkshire local race, but I think the early start (register on night from 5.45) makes it a bit tricky to get there in time unless you work nearby, (which I do sometimes).
Anyway it was a really nice run, quite cool weather, downhill start, usual bit of mud and hill, mainly tracks through woods or a field, only 50 runners, and almost as many friendly marshalls! I was happy to be first V60 and get some chocolate and fudge, OK there were only three in the category and none of the fast guys, but I was also pleased to be 7th female from 21 runners.
The other two are 18 July and 5 September, if anyone wants a low key trail run for £6 on the night, they are good value.
The race was won by Matthew Croft (Unaffiliated) in 33:44 and Vicky Shaw (Barnsley AC) in 37:40 .
