Race Report by Sarah Thorne
A tricky fell race mostly through private land that gives access for the fell race each year. On the one hand, this means a chance to explore parts of the Peaks that are usually inaccessible. On the other hand, this means that most of the route is well off the beaten path, making it quite technical. If you’ve never done a fell race before, this is probably the sort of race you’d imagine a fell race to be- lots of pushing through bracken, navigating rough upland fields, and desperately trying not to fall into ditches. If you’re used to the evening Peak District fell races (like me), the route is annoyingly un-runnable in many parts (at least at speed) and the technical terrain makes it difficult to look up to appreciate the view. Still, there’s a nice downhill finish and despite heavy showers before and after the race, the rain mostly let up for us to try and enjoy the race.
