Race Date Friday 21 June 2024
A new course for Tideswell this year which, with chip timing, included sections of the Monsal Trail, steep climbs, steep rocky descents, stepping stones, a 400m long tunnel and a tortuous path along Chee Dale. A steep flight of steps rounded off the five miles and about 500ft of climb. A feature of this year’s event was a fancy dress stag party with, amongst the various beasts taking part, a turtle, chicken, cow, bumble bee, flamingo and, of course, a stag. Oh dear, there was even a feed station providing shots for them.

A perusal of the results will reveal a number of Steel City more likely to be seen on the road or track rather than at a fell race, present at the behest of retiring club captain and birthday girl Caroline Brock, moving up an age group and finishing as first woman. It is reported that not all of her guests particularly enjoyed the fell racing experience. Tommy Parr (Hallam) was the first male in 30:17.

Steel City results below as we mention our Italian correspondent Valeria Gasperini (Amatori Atletica Chirignago) on a brief visit to the UK, who finished with 41:41 and 1st F40 as Caroline was first senior. It was also good to see Gillian Allen who has been largely out of action since the Eyri Marathon last September
