Race report by Victoria Johnson
This was the 31st edition of the Hollybank Eccup 10, organised by Abbey Runners from Leeds.
Starting from near Adel St John the Baptist Primary School in North-West Leeds, this course runs through the leafy roads of Adel and Alwoodly, skirts the edge of Eccup reservoir, and proceeds around Golden Acre park. The course is undulating, but a lot of fun, especially around the edge of the reservoir, and the support was great, with some residents coming out to cheer us on.
The fun isn’t limited to the over 18s either — there were a range of races for the kids, including one lap of the Bedquilts playing field for kids between 7 and 11, and two laps for kids and teens aged between 11 and 17. There was also a 1km Peter Leach fun run, which was open to all.
Abbey Runners also held a charity bake sale, conveniently placed next to the bag drop, which was a welcome sight after 10 miles on the course.
Overall, the race was flawlessly organised, with excellent marshaling, ample water stations, great support, efficient bag drop, and so much more. I would highly recommend this race for any Strider who is able to take the time to get to Leeds.
I was the only Strider who took part, although I bumped into some Penistone AC runners.
