Race date: 7 December 2024

It’s that time of year again to take on the undulating trail route of Carsington water HM. I have a love/hate relationship with this race. I love the route, it is scenic and challenging. But the weather on race day is never ideal. One year it was snow and ice, in the summer there was a heat wave and for this race a yellow weather warning due to a storm.
Had my usual cuppa tea and a hob nob and set off for Carsington water.
About Carsington Water:
Planning for the reservoir started in the 1960s and construction started in 1979. In 1984, there was a partial collapse of the dam before it was filled. The dam was removed before the construction of a new dam began in 1989. The finished reservoir was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1992.
The route:
The HM and 10km route start at different locations. You collect race number on the day… don’t forget to attach the chip to your shoe.
The first section is out and back then a loop around the reservoir. The course is undulation and light trail – you can get away with road shoes. For the puddles a snorkel and flippers is advised.
Once you reach the finish a medal and snacks are waiting.… and this year also Katelyn McKeown who has completed the HM on her birthday. Happy birthday.
I was pleasantly surprised by a new Carsington Water PB despite the weather.
278 runners took on the half marathon distance in tough weather conditions. The race was won by Jack Webb in 01:20:11 and Sarah Rolph in 01:36:45.
Striders Results:
P | Name | Cat | Time |

268 | Hannah Wright | F35 | 02:42:28 |
