Race Date: Wednesday 12th June 2024
Back for the first time since 2019, this lovely short fell race attracted 174 runners. One of the organisers, Steve Franklin told me that yesterday morning, more people were on the waiting list for Grindleford fell race than had signed up for this one. Such a shame as these races need supporting or they’re lost forever. Fortunately, EoD allowed numbers to swell.
It was a lovely early summer’s evening for a race with a pretty brutal start. The climb out of Calver seems endless (to me anyway) but before too long, it starts flattening out with a nice run through some gorse (thankfully cut back). There’s a bit of road, then another climb followed by the track along the quarry and the descent down the narrow stony path to Calver. A little sting in the tail before hurtling down the hill into the village and into the finish field. Completely knackered and feeling good.
The winning male was Tommy Power of Hallamshire Harriers in 30.22. The winning female was Strider, Abbie Pearse in 35.09. Well done to the 11 Striders in attendance.
