Race Date: Sunday 26th May 2024
The Buxton Half Marathon, hosted by Buxton Athletic Club, returned for the 42nd time this year. It’s a single lap route, starting at Buxton’s Opera House, which take runners on a scenic route through the Peak District countryside before returning back to the Pavilion Gardens to cross the finish line.
The route isn’t known for being flat! Runners head out of town and are soon faced with the first climb along Axe Edge. You will see Chrome Hill, Dowel Dale, Park House Hill and others as you run down country lanes before taking on a couple more climbs before crossing the finish line. Total ascent is around 1508ft/460m.
315 runners took part on the day. The men’s race was won by Christopher Patterson of Mansfield Harriers in 01:13:21. The women’s race was won by Hayley Gill of Matlock Athletics in 01:26:51.
Just a couple of Striders took part. Here are their results:
Position | Name | Category | Time |
187 | Dean Harding | M40 | 02:00:33 |
202 | Karen Clark | F60 | 02:02:25 |
Well done to both and an extra special mention for Karen who came 3rd in her age group!
