Race Date: Saturday 15th June 2024
Buckden Pike is a short but very snappy fell race. It’s around 6km but contains 486 metres of climb in the first couple of km. Basically it’s up, up, up, (very steeply), flat for a while, then down, down, down. Great if you want to trash your quads and knees.
For added good measure this year, mother nature decided to include a torrential rain storm and clag at the top. Am I selling it? I should be because it was great fun and we’re going back to do it again next year 🙂
The fell race is always part of the Buckden Gala and it’s UHTGs annual weekend away. There were more UHTG supporters sitting in the rain getting cold and soaked but happily cheering us on than there were runners. Massive kudos to them for sitting on that grass bank seeing us off and cheering us back in. We all loved it.
The male race was won by Jack Cummings of Ilkley Harriers in 37.36. The female race was won by Annie Hassell of Wharfedale Harriers in 51.30.
