Race Date: Saturday 03 August 2024
Held in conjunction with the Bassingham Carnival, this five mile race is as flat as the Lincolnshire fens can get and consistently attracts a quality field. After a decent set of 5x1000m at the track the previous Monday, the plan was to go out hard (a subjective term) and see how long this could be maintained. This wasn’t for very long on this occasion but useful knowled for what you want isn’t always what you get. The Runner’s Book of Excuses blames the sun which came out just as the race started.
Pos | Name | Cat | Time |
95 | Peter Brown | M65 | 37:20 |
The race had some useful performances with Linton Taylor (Leeds) 23:52 and Sophie Wallis (Lincoln) 25:57 getting the glory. An interesting feature of this race is the award of cash prizes for U23 competitors. Whilst there are separate awards for vets younger athletes, who could do with a little help sometimes, don’t often get to trouble the scorers in open events although on this occasion Samuel Roberts (Retford/Vegan) was third overall with 24:27.
