On January 8th, St Theresa’s Athletic Club (STAC) presented the 7th instalment of the TNT (Temple Newsam Ten) – as the (very good) race t-shirts always proclaim, its ‘tough not timid’. The course consists of ten and a bit miles of beautiful on and off road running on and around the Temple Newsam Estate in Leeds. As is usually the case, the course is muddy in most places and the infamous ‘pool of doom’ was very much in evidence after a week of heavy rain. The race makes an excellent start to the racing calendar; it sells out quickly each year and attracted nearly 800 runners in 2023, with Leeds and West Yorkshire clubs unsurprisingly much in evidence. Only a handful of Striders competed the year; given that it now clashes with the hugely popular Winter edition of the Round Sheffield Run, this is unlikely to change. However if you fancy something different I’d wholeheartedly recommend it; its very well organised and marshalled, the t-shirt (long sleeve) is decent too.
The men’s race was won by James Easton of Tadcaster Harriers in a time of 58.02, whilst the women’s race was won by Faye Clark in a time of 1.13.59. Four Striders were in attendance.
