Following a successful first year the Daffodil 10k returned for 2023, promoted again by Sports Feet in conjunction with Crazy Legs Events. The race was held on a closed road course in Stockport starting on Jackson’s Lane and taking in Chester Road/Woodford Road and a section of the A555 (Airport Link Road).

Katrina shared some details of the race…

The weather produced a dry cool morning for a road race. In only it’s second year, the race attracted 1030 runners, including an impressive number of club runners from Derbyshire, Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire clubs. Steel City Striders were represented by two Striders: me and James Lawrence (good prep for his imminent Parkrun Cup Final – Ed.). Whilst the elevation overall wasn’t significant (73m), where there were a couple of hills they were a good gradient, particularly the one at 9.7k! It was nice to see James at the end and have a debrief on each other’s races. I particularly liked that the goody-bag at the end came with some Ron Hill reflective laces and a Freddo!

Then men’s race was won by Johnny Mellor of Liverpool Harriers and RC in a time of 31:25. The women’s race was won by Carla Davies of Preston Harriers in 36:03. It looked like a decent competition between the two Striders and produced a shiny new PB for Katrina – well done!
