On the 4th February, the nine finalists in this year’s Striders’ Parkrun Cup competition gathered at Millhouses Park to decide who would be crowned the champion in this year’s keenly fought contest. The competition had started back in October, taking in Hillsborough, Castle, Concord and Graves parkruns on the way to this year’s final. As has been the case at every stage of the contest, it was great to see soo many Striders there to support their favourite, or to cheer on all of the finalists. Unlike last season, when a Graves final meant that PBs were unlikely, the final fast course at Millhouses produced a set of really impressive performances from all of the finalists with plenty of folk running well under their previous PBs, However in the end it was Harriet Davies who took away the plaudits, having taken a whopping 1 minute 34 seconds off her PB, whilst both Roger Walters and Victoria Johnson were worthy runners up, with over a minute off their respective PBs. Huge congratulations to all nine Striders who made it to the final – an impressive achievement in its own right. The competition will be back in then autumn – here’s hoping this has spurred even more of you to sign up for the 2023-4 contest.
