Race Date: Saturday 21st January 2023
The fourth and final fixture (and ‘Championship’ race) of the SYCAA Cross Country series took place at a frosty Longley Park in January, after original plans to hold the race at Graves Park were scuppered by the weather. The replacement route was described as generally undulating with one steep hill.

75 runners took part in the Under-20, Senior and Veteran Ladies race, which was won by Frederica Richards of Worksop Harriers & AC in a time of 21:34. 117 runners took part in the Under-20, Senior and Veteran Men U-65’s race, which was won by Cameron Bell of Hallamshire Harriers AC in a time of 33:32. Of the Striders present, Abbie Pearse finished second (and 2nd in category); Caroline Brock and Dot Kesterton both finished first in category; Kate Scott finished second, and Lucy Broom and Paddy Treehowes third in their respective categories. Well done to all!
The team events were won by Steel City Striders for the women (go Striders!), and Hallamshire Harriers AC for the men.
Intense discussions at Strider’s HQ
The Championship race settles the overall individual and team standings, with points from this race added to the two best scores from the other three fixtures. Overall results follow the race results below, but there are some Strider highlights we must mention here: Caroline Brock and Kate Scott both category winners, Abbie Pearse and Fiona Jeffries both category runners up. All this top running sees Steel City Striders finish fourth in Division 1, securing our place for next year. Well done team!
