Race Date: Thursday 11th May 2023

A packed Rother Valley Relays took place on a warm evening in early May, and the Striders women dominated the prizes:

• 1st place team in the women’s overall (and FS) competition, with Abbie Pearse running the fastest individual leg across all women’s categories.
• 1st and 3rd teams in the FV50s, with Kate Scott & Caroline Greenough running the 1st and 2nd fastest individual legs in category.
• 1st and 2nd teams in the FV60s, with Nicola Rafferty & Dot Kesterton running the 1st and 2nd fastest individual legs in category.
• Sarah Moss ran the 3rd fastest individual leg in the FV40s category.

Among the men, our Senior Male A Team missed out on the podium with a nonetheless impressive 4th place overall. Adrian Fisher ran the fastest leg in the MV50 category, and Jed Turner the fastest in the MV60s category.

Things got a little hectic; we set up camp in a bog, and several Striders stepped up to run two legs: Seth Kirby, Nick Burns, Helen Royles-Jones and Catherine McKeown.

I offered to fill a gap in the MV40 C Team, but then lost at least 15 seconds by missing the hand over. It’s making a team that counts, moving swiftly on…

Fun stat! In our Senior Male C Team, three out of four runners ran an identical time. Has a team ever managed a full house? I’ll let someone else research that one.

Runners crowd the finish line/handover point

SCS fielded 12 of 105 teams in the women’s competition. As mentioned above, our Female Senior A Team won overall in a time of 00:56:21.

We fielded 10 of 102 teams in the MS/MV40/MV50 competition, winners were Hallamshire Harriers in a time of 1:04:12.

In the MV60s competition we fielded 1 complete and 1 incomplete team out of 14 teams total. Winners were Doncaster AC in a time of 1:04:28.

There was also a Mixed Teams competition (4 leg). No SCS team featured, and winners were Hallamshire Harriers in a time of 1:11:13.
