Ranger Ultras Peak District North and South – Race and Run Report

16th and 17th November 2023

This ultra had the option of racing either or both days.

Day one was set in the limestone country of the White Peak. Over 50 km
runners covered the rolling hills and lush riverine microclimates of limestone dales.
The route ended with a short challenging ascent over the Great Ridge, then descended back into the beautiful
post-glacial u-shaped Vale of Edale.

Day two took in some of the best views of the Dark Peak, with 43 km racing along the Pennine Way, up the famous Jacob’s Ladder, past Kinder Downfall, then linking to the Pennine Bridleway, into the historic village of Hayfield, past Mount Famine, up to and along Rushup Edge to Mam Nick, followed by a direct line back to the finish.

The routes were not marked but gpx files were sent out ahead of time.

A particularly feature of this year was apparently the mud that had been laid on in impressive quantities but that didn’t prevent Giulia Neri taking the win, yet another impressive Striders result.

First male was Lee Parker in 4:33:40, First lady and new course record holder was Giulia Neri in 6:37:08
