Race Date: Sunday 29th January 2023
Last summer I was a volunteer driver at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. During the Games I spent a lot of time at Warwick University, a place I know professionally as a scientist and also as a race walking venue.
I couldn’t resist the opportunity to return to Warwick for the final race of the Midlands Winter Racewalking League. This race should have taken place in December but was cancelled due to snow. The rescheduled event took place on Sunday 29th January.
It was good to see several old racewalk friends from the midlands. I did the 10km walk up and down a road in the University Science Park.
I had a good walk finishing 4th out of 15 in a time of 63.48. I moved from 7th to 4th in the last 1200m. Unlike when I run I can move quite fast at the end in racewalks, I did the last km in under 6 minutes! My best 10km for a few years.
