Race Date: Sunday 3rd September 2023

Weekend race four of four for me (or 3/3 if we don’t include parkrun, as we all know is a run not a race) and I completed a hat trick of PWs following on from Great Longstone on Friday and Longshaw Sheepdog on Saturday.

This (now) 17 miler with the compulsory route through Longshaw was a hot one. Despite feeling rubbish for the whole race, it’s still one of my favourites of the year and hopefully I’ll return next year feeling in much better form. As I know the route very well, I guided Neil and Matt round the course. We picked up Jim at the bottom of Higger Tor after he’d rolled his ankle. Roger was with us for quite a bit of the time too so there was a Striders train passing through the checkpoints all the way round. It was more of a social than a long distance fell race, which was great.

Those Striders that took this race seriously did really well, with Sarah finishing first and Sian getting third. Louis also picked up first MV40 and Neil bagged a spot prize for 50th place. If only he’d sprinted for the line to beat me! All prize winners got a punnet of strawberries and we all agreed Louis’ strawberries tasted very nice, not that he’d know – sorry Louis
