Race Date: 18 November 2023
Peakrunners put on this small event for 217 runners who fancied running in the grandeur of the surroundings of Derwent and Howden reservoirs. The course was a 10 mile clockwise circuit of the ‘top two’ reservoirs. Tarmac and compacted trails were a little soggy underfoot, the air was cool and crisp with only the occasional headwind on the homeward half. The sun was somewhere behind clouds – pretty perfect running conditions. Strava tells me the elevation was in the region of 178m.
The Dam walls were cascading in full white water glory, the trees were magnificent shades of brown. Autumn is a pretty spectacular time to run this race and I would recommend it to every one of you.
On a personal note, I want to thank the various run leaders of the 6 in 65 club runs from Hillsborough on a Wednesday evening who have provided the motivation to get out and do some running up Sheffield’s ‘mounds of opportunity’ which made for good preparation for this race.
