Curbar Commotion Fell Race result

Race Date; Saturday 7th October 2023

The race is run by Curbar Primary school to raise money for school funds.

The course is an interesting combination of paths, with some quite technical running at times with tree roots, mud, rocks and more muddy bits along with some quite steep descents. You start from outside the school and up a minor road before a bottleneck at a stile to get onto the footpaths. From here you cross the road to Curbar Gap before a rising traverse through the woods below Froggatt Edge eventually emerging on the main path along the edges, you double back to run along the top of Froggatt Edge before crossing over to the end of White Edge and then a long descent down to Baslow, close passing some hairy Highland cows on route. From the top of Baslow village there is then a sting in the tail steep climb out of the village and across the fields before descending on a narrow muddy path back to school and finish and superb cakes and biscuits in the school grounds.

If seriously competing you would need to get a fast start as the stile was a real bottleneck and then the next mile or so was narrow paths where overtaking was harder.

The race was won by Jack Scott in 1:04:11 and Joanne Mosely in 1:24:41 and there were 284 finishers

First strider back was Al Cook in 1:29:23, best result was Nicola Rafferty winning her age group despite taking a tumble on the route. There were 11 striders in all.
