Race Date: Sunday 16th April 2023
Race Report by: Colleen Moore
Whilst spending a few days in Lincoln enjoying the sights and cafes, we headed to Yarborough Parkrun which also happened to be the start line for the City of Lincoln 10K the following day. Due to a few knee problems I decided I was going to take both events easy.
Yarborough Parkrun (3.5 loops on tarmac) was very welcoming with a new run director for the day. This was their 10th event. Sheffield RC runner Keith Swainson turning up to win with a time of 16:40.
Onto the City of Lincoln 10k, the start section was not great with only a very small section for the sub 40 min runners (this didn’t include me!), a lot of runners were unable to get into the starting area. Even though the whole of the road was closed safety barriers had been place for the first 500 m which only allowed for 4 abreast and lead to a hectic if not slightly dangerous start.
On a more positive note, the marshals and supporters were great the whole way around with instruments and signs. Due to the nature of the route some sections were run twice so there was a lot of cheering from all the spectators. The course finished next to the cathedral in brilliant sunshine. As it was warm I opted for a vest to keep Colin happy!
5 Striders took part in the event with the first Strider Ryan Sheppeck coming in 22nd place with a time of 33:36. Personally I was hoping to get under the hour mark but was just over, however was pleased to get around injury free!
