This is one of my favourite races. It’s put on by Tape2Tape and they have it very well organised. Lots of friendly marshals, pacers and cake at the end. What’s not to like! There is a fun run, 10k and a half marathon. Myself and Ian Blackburn did the half. There is plenty of parking and toilets near the start and it’s quite an easy drive from Sheffield for the 10.30 half start or 10am for the 10k.
The start is just off the front and goes through the Haven chalet park where the smell of cooked breakfast wafts through the air. Some nice support to get you going. From there you’re into flat rural roads which I find quite soothing. Then there’s an off road section offering views across a nature reserve before looping back through the chalet park and finishing along the prom. A drumming group and brass band played on the final stretch then you’re handed a donut and very attractive t shirt and medal. We nipped into the leisure centre for a post race shower then off for well deserved fish and chips. If you want a good day out I’d recommend giving this a go.
First man was Lee Milburn (Rotherham Harriers & AC) in 1:08:35 and first lady was Emily Smith (Charnwood AC) in 1:19:27.
