The Tom Holmes Chase, Oughtibridge Gala, 15th June 2022

The Tom Holmes Gala Chase is named in honour of Tom Holmes who founded the Chase after being inspired by the route he and his dog used to walk on a daily basis.  Tom was a prominent member of the Village; serving on the committee for the Gala and Sports Night as well as Oughtibridge Brass band. The Chase commences in Coronation Park, proceeds up Jawbone Hill by road to Wharncliffe Woods, which then loops through the woods and then returns and finishes back in the Park. The distance is approximately 6km with 180m of ascent.

This year’s event took place on 15th June after a two year COVID gap. It attracted 85 competitors in total including seventeen Striders. The race was won by Gareth Cooke of Barnsley A.C. in a time of 21.38. Nicola Squires of Hallamshire Harriers was the first female finisher in a time of 24.30.The first Strider home was Robert Hoffman, in a time of 27.41, and the first female Strider was Katrina Gillett in 31.39. Graham Hague was the first V70 home in a time of 32.46.
