Race Date: Sunday 13th February 2022
I decided to do a different Florida half marathon on this holiday visit. Tempted by better scenery than the Daytona half marathon as this one was along the intracostal waterway (Halifax river). I wasn’t disappointed as I caught sight of dolphins and pelicans diving in the river during the race.
The race started at 6.30am in the dark with rain, which continued all race but it felt like running in a warm shower so not unpleasant and I didn’t have to decide whether to wear sunglasses or not!!
As advertised there was music at fairly regular intervals along the course both live bands, soloists and DJs, supplemented by a gent on a motorbike with a loud sound system attached to the back who travelled back and forth along the route.
Although not to the standard of Sheffield support along the route there were more people cheering than I had previously experienced in Florida.
I was quite pleased with my time of 2.36.27 chip time and it’s certainly a race I’ll look at doing again.
The men’s race was won by Ryan Carroll in 1.17.28. The women’s race was won by Megan Connolly in 1.20.17. Gill finished at 240th female and 7th in her age category. Nicely done!
