Wednesday 8th June
Report by Adrian Good
I’ve not had a great year with running, what with Covid, injuries and other things, but I set myself a goal to do a 10k race every month. I really struggled finding a race in June on a weekend so I decided on Sandall Beat Trail 10k ran by Doncaster AC which was Wednesday 8th June with a 19:30 start starting at Doncaster Knights Rugby ground. I arrived around 19:00 just as the Junior fun run 1 mile was starting. I was just coming back from a knee injury so was mainly looking forward to just running again and not pushing myself. The fun run finished and we were all ushered to the Starting Arch and the gun was fired. It Started with a lap of a grassy field then entered the woods I went off really steady with only a handful of people behind me. Was really nice trail paths through the woods and I enjoyed the first few miles but then my lack of recent running and fitness hit home and I found myself run/walking just before half way. Went through half way in around 37min. Then we came out the woods and on to a long grassy field with football pitches on it which ran along side the Doncaster Race Course. It seemed to last forever. We then went back into the woods and passed the water station. At this point i just wanted the run to be over – it wasn’t that I was not enjoying the route, just the fact my fitness was done. At a walking pace. I finally made it back to the grassy area where we started and completed the loop just about managing my traditional sprint finish. Crossed the line and was handed a Sandall Beat 2020 rucksack and a Kit Kat.
