With the final three races of this year’s Road Champs approaching, an update is overdue. Remember, the format means your best 5 scores from 12 count at the end of the year. That means that in theory some people who’ve only done a couple of races so far could still come through, but time is running out.
Age-Graded Table
Our age-graded table handicaps runners by age and sex, giving all runners in the club a chance to compete with everyone else on an equal footing. For more information about the calculations, see BMAF’s explanation.
Whereas the points used for our age category tables are calculated by comparing your time to the winner’s time, age-grades are calculated by comparing your time to the world record for your age. That means it’s easier to score a better age-grade on a faster course. With some faster races left, there’s definitely potential for people to improve on their age-grades as we finish off the championship.
But here’s how things stand right now…
We have a new leader at the top of the table in Nick Booker (M50). Nick missed the first couple of races but has built through the year, and last time out ran 38:07 for 81.55% at the Sheffield 10k. With some lower scores from hillier races and easier efforts earlier in the year, he could still increase his total, and maybe even break the magic 400 point barrier.
Just behind him, Adrian Fisher (M45) has been in the form of his life this year, taking big chunks off his 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon PBs.
Rob Byers (MSen) may be in 3rd place but could still leapfrog them both. His last outing (Vale of York Half, 1:11:29, 81.67%) was the best age-graded time any of them has run in the championship this year. He also still has his outing as a pacer at the Sheffield Half (1:34:26, 61.82%) in his total, waiting to be replaced by a proper effort.
Looking further down the table, there are three runners with less than five scores on the board to keep a particularly close eye on: Kate Waddicor (F65, 4 races, 311.11); Stephanie Street (F65, 3 races, 238.30), and Abbie Pearse (3 races, 238.27). All have average scores good enough to challenge the leaders if they toe the start line at the last few races.

Age-Graded Table.
Age Categories
The tables below just show a few of the top runners in each category. For full standings see The Spreadsheet.
Average scores are shown for easy comparison where a different number of races have been run.
Highest scores are suggestive of potential.
Lowest score gives an idea of how much a runner’s score could be improved by a good run that replaces it.
Senior Men
Rob Byers enjoys a big lead at the top of the Senior Men’s table, but could still do with another good score to make sure of the title.
Seth Kirby and Richard Pearson are the potential challengers if he gets complacent.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Rob Byers | 454.71 | 5 | 90.94 | 96.61 | 73.30 |
2 | Seth Kirby | 355.39 | 4 | 88.85 | 95.38 | 84.63 |
3 | Jordan Moat | 280.72 | 4 | 70.18 | 81.25 | 57.69 |
4 | Richard Pearson | 279.72 | 3 | 93.24 | 97.14 | 88.36 |
Senior Women
The Senior Women’s title looks to be going to Laura Mella, who’s regularly scored well throughout the year.
Abbie Pearse, Yasmine Chaffer, Caroline Brock, and Gillian Allen have also scored very well, but haven’t run enough yet to compete.
Assuming none of those three come through, Katie Gill and Rachael Toon have a chance to snatch 2nd place.
Laura Rangeley currently holds that position though, despite an improving Victoria Johnson rapidly closing in on her score.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Laura Mella | 434.60 | 5 | 86.92 | 89.24 | 84.48 |

M40-49
James Storey ran a time of 37:05 at the Sheffield 10k, smashing his PB by more than 3 minutes, and taking him to the top of the M40 table.
Adrian Fisher is just behind; hopefully an injury niggle won’t disrupt his season too much.
There’s still time, however, for either Stephen Schubeler or Michael Cockings to gate-crash their battle for 1st place.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | James Storey | 436.67 | 5 | 87.33 | 90.36 | 84.94 |

13 | Michael Cockings | 261.75 | 3 | 87.25 | 91.84 | 84.46 |
F40-49
Sarah Allcard seems to have run pretty much everything this year, including every Road Champs race so far. She doesn’t hang around either, and she’s well clear at the top of the F40 table.
If the season ended now, Nancy Stuart would be runner-up, as you need 5 races to be eligible for a prize. But the runner-up spot may well end up going to either Sarah Percival, who needs one more race, or Jacqui Herring, who needs two.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Sarah Allcard | 429.95 | 5 | 85.99 | 87.26 | 84.93 |
2 | Sarah Percival | 307.68 | 4 | 76.92 | 77.73 | 75.73 |
3 | Nancy Stuart | 286.68 | 5 | 57.34 | 60.77 | 52.27 |

7 | Jacqui Herring | 243.46 | 3 | 81.15 | 81.74 | 80.49 |
M50-59
Nick Booker has the M50 category sewn up, but there’s a fierce battle on for second place.
Adam McAuley is currently in the hot seat, but one good run from either Jonathan Legon or Neil Schofield could depose him. Three good runs from Wei Chen would do the same.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Nick Booker | 422.98 | 5 | 84.60 | 88.59 | 81.54 |
2 | Adam McAuley | 362.55 | 5 | 72.51 | 76.02 | 69.32 |
3 | Jonathan Legon | 296.73 | 4 | 74.18 | 78.81 | 70.16 |
4 | Paddy Treehowes | 283.91 | 4 | 70.98 | 75.45 | 67.23 |

12 | Wei Chen | 161.91 | 2 | 80.96 | 82.60 | 79.32 |
F50-59
The F50 race looks fairly well settled, with Kate Scott leading from Karen Clark.
The only runner to have done at least 2 races with a high enough average score to challenge is Caroline Greenough, but she’s running out of time.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Kate Scott | 379.39 | 5 | 75.88 | 78.73 | 70.45 |
2 | Karen Clark | 368.18 | 5 | 73.64 | 74.95 | 71.19 |
3 | Nada Ross | 343.80 | 5 | 68.76 | 71.54 | 66.69 |
4 | Vikki McAuley | 311.77 | 5 | 62.35 | 65.48 | 59.20 |
9 | Caroline Greenough | 156.97 | 2 | 78.48 | 78.48 | 78.48 |
M60-69
Richard Pegg leads M60, but is looking nervously over his shoulder, not so much at 2nd placed Kevin Haighton as 3rd placed Paul Bentley. Paul needs another race, but has a fractionally better average score than Richard. This one could end up very close.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Richard Pegg | 345.13 | 5 | 69.03 | 72.33 | 66.54 |
2 | Kevin Haighton | 322.75 | 5 | 64.55 | 65.57 | 61.75 |
3 | Paul Bentley | 277.69 | 4 | 69.42 | 70.87 | 66.54 |
4 | David Hewitt | 193.41 | 3 | 64.47 | 67.86 | 61.00 |
7 | Peter Brown | 134.71 | 2 | 67.36 | 67.91 | 66.81 |
F60-69
Jo Gleig still holds the F60 lead, but Kate Waddicor looks poised to pass her if she can stop running marathons for long enough to get a fifth race in.
However, the biggest scores this year have come from Stephanie Street who may still surge into 1st place at the last.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Jo Gleig | 307.27 | 5 | 61.45 | 64.33 | 56.26 |
2 | Kate Waddicor | 279.88 | 4 | 69.97 | 72.32 | 65.61 |
3 | Stephanie Street | 216.98 | 3 | 72.33 | 72.79 | 71.43 |
4 | Gillian Pearson | 209.38 | 4 | 52.34 | 54.00 | 50.77 |
M70+
Graham Hague has done everything he needs to to become our first ever M70+ Road Champion. Great work, Graham.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Graham Hague | 306.74 | 5 | 61.35 | 63.21 | 59.03 |
F70+
With two races run, Helen Eberlin is our only F70 who could still complete five championship races this year.
Pos | Name | Points | Scoring Races | Average | Highest | Lowest |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2 | Helen Eberlin | 119.60 | 2 | 59.80 | 63.50 | 56.10 |
The next race in the championship is tomorrow’s Chesterfield 10k. After that we have the Worksop Half and the Doncaster 10k to finish.
