Race Date: Sunday 2nd October 2022
While focus was mostly on a little marathon 590 miles south of Inverness in that London, 3 striders, Mick Brogan, Nancy Stuart and Richard Pegg went to Inverness to do the Loch Ness Marathon. Cal Lloyd from HRRC was also in attendance. There were also runners from other South Yorkshire clubs. In fact one person from Penistone asked Peggy during the race if the 5 mile road series will be on in 2023!
This race is a very enjoyable low key event. The only problem with it is the distance travelled to get to it!! But once there it’s a great place to be.
It’s a point to point race where a fleet of buses go for an hour and a bit out to, frankly, a wilderness with a start line and portaloos.
The course is a challenge with a roller coaster drop down alongside the Ness on a quiet B road. Surface is excellent. There is a really nasty hill climb at around 20 miles that drags out of your legs any energy left!
At the end there is a free soup, music and a beer tent! However, like most marathons once finished most people want to go into a quiet place and just reflect on that madness,
The event was won by Dougie Selman from Costorphine AC. in a time of 2.23. It is noted that the second place runner was 2 mins ahead of him at half way so was a great race.
The First Lady back was Jemima Farley (unattached to a club) in 2.42.

Well done all three!! Especially to Mick for doing it without training and Nance for running off the back of illness.
For the record Cal finished in 3.27 (6th in age category but still disappointed!!)
