Race Date: Sunday 30th October 2022
This was RunThrough’s second race of the year at Chester Zoo, following the 10k on 3rd July (when there were 1,634 finishers). The conditions were dry and unseasonably mild, and I was glad of the breeze. We set off, skirting the car park then heading in to the zoo. I didn’t spot any animals, however – only hearing a few noises in the background.
Soon the route was out on flat country lanes, It felt quiet after my previous races at Sheffield and Chesterfield, and I appreciated the encouragement of the marshalls and small groups of spectators. Towards the end the route followed the bridleway that bisects the zoo.
I made my best attempt at a sprint finish, hurtled over the line, but then struggled to stop in the distance before a right-angled bend in the path. Clearly my brakes are not what they used to be. Having narrowly missed plouging in to some people watching, I went off to retrieve my bag.
The winner of the men’s race was Jack Bromley (unattached) in 32:18. The winner of the women’s race was Eleesha Charnley (Blackburn Harriers) in 38:13.
1785 runners took part in the Chester Zoo 10k, including one Strider
