Race Report by Jonathan Bickley
This was the Chester 10k starting by the racecourse rather than the one ending up in the zoo – I’m doing that in October. Conditions were dry, breezy and overcast. I was hoping not to be too hemmed in at the start, and as soon as the route had turned out of Nunns Road onto the A548 space was never an issue.
Heading northwest out of Chester to Mollington I tried to keep my pace as brisk as I thought I could maintain, but by the 5k mark I was flagging a bit. I really wanted to achieve another time under 45 minutes so just dug in. The support from marshalls and spectators was very welcome, and the end of the route through the historic streets of central Chester was an added boon.
For the third year in succession the first male was Daniel Jarvis (Bedford & County AC) – 30:42. In 2020 he set the male course record (29:45). The first female was Joanna Marsden (Cheshire Dragons) – 36:54.
2659 runners lined up for the Chester 10k, including lone Strider, Jonathan.
