The last race in the Striders Trail Champs saw a good turnout of two dozen Striders, with several high-fliers out to secure their places in the final standings. As always, Penistone Footpath Runners’ organisation was faultless, with efficient registration, plenty of marshals, chip timing and a free tea-towel for every runner! The rain wasn’t quite the two-drops shown on the Met Office widget, but there was plenty of mud to be going on with and the gorse was scratchy as ever.
The race was won by Alan Ford of Barnsley Harriers in 55:02 and by Emily Cowper Coles of Denby Dale AC in 1:00:38. 280 runners finished the course.
Strider Neil Schofield celebrated winning the MV50 category in the Trail Championships by picking up his first ever category race win, no doubt assisted by his on-brand arm-warmers.
