Race Date 25 April 2021
Set in Tatton Park with its stately home in rural Cheshire on a traffic free route, the course is described as scenic and undulating whilst still offering a fast race. The two lap route had a numerous U-turns to hamper competitors although this didn’t seem to bother our new club captain Caroline Brock who sped to a new half marathon club record of 1:21:29 previously held by Sian Evans (1:22:02).
With initially Covid Tiers (Caroline lives in Derbyshire) and then the second Lockdown, we haven’t seen much of el Capitano since November. Like the rest of us, she has therefore been training largely on her own (this race is part of her build up for the Boston (Lincs) Marathon at the end of May) but this clearly doesn’t appear to have been an issue improving her previous pb by an astonishing three minutes and forty seconds.
Name | Cat | Pos | Time |
James Scott-Farrington (Horwich) | SM | 1 | 1:07:21 (1:07:20) |
Sophie Wood (Sale) | SF | 1 | 1:15:35 (1:16:48) |
Caroline Brock | F35 | 2 (1) | 1:21:29 (1:20:37) |
The start was in Covid ‘waves’ and you can see that it took Caroline nearly a minute to cross the start line; for those at the rear of the field of 932 finishers it took over fifteen minutes. At the moment the club has always used gun times for record purposes but there is an argument that in this situation the chip time is valid. A poser for your committee to sort out.
