Shifted from its usual April slot, this year’s Derby 10k took place under overcast skies with a steady drizzle. Setting off from Pride Park Stadium, I found the start fairly slow as we funnelled down Riverside Road, but the field opened up once we were on the A6.

Since beginning to do races a couple of years ago, this was my first city-based run and I enjoyed the mix of wide roads and the central section through the pedestrianised area and up round the Cathedral.

My time was exactly the same as my previous 10k – but I still think I’ve got a faster one in me. I’m not going to let the thought of turning 60 next year defeat me.
