Winter Warmer 10k result and report by Richard Pegg

A winter warmer is a traditional malty-sweet strong ale that is brewed in the winter months. It is usually quite dark, but not as dark as a stout, with a big malt presence. Sometimes, winter warmers have a few spices, especially in the United States, although spices are not a required ingredient in a winter warmer.

The Winter Warmers are also a series of low key races run by Fix Events to support the charity Shelter. These are held at many cities around the country. Lone strider, Richard Pegg, was in Newcastle for footy and entered the 10k event in that city.

The one in Newcastle does a 5 and 10k loop using the Town Moor parkrun course. So fairly flat but very windy! Richard finished in a tired 53 minutes having done parkrun before, finishing 102nd overall and 3rd in age category. He was maybe also hampered by a few late beers in the excellent Crown Posada public house the night before. First Man home was by Michael Salisbury unattached in 37 minutes and First Lady was Abbie Anderson, also unattached, in 44 minutes.

All in all, a very recommended event. Richard also highly recommends the Crown Posada which is fine establishment even if it did not have winter warmers on tap at the last visit.
