Hoofstones Fell Race 2020 Results and Report

Report By: Andy Fry

Race Date: Saturday 25th January 2020

Nestled among the steep valleys and dark satanic mills of West Yorkshire lies the Staff of Life pub, registration point for Hoofstones fell race (8miles/1394ft/BM) and winner of the prestigious “Yorkshire’s smallest pub car park 2020” award.

The race started innocuously enough up a pleasantly runnable forest track. However, the fun (and indeed the visibility) was not to last and we were soon spat out onto the open moor, where conditions became foggy and grim and navigation was of the “follow a bearing through the clag” variety. Despite the multiple warnings from the organisers there was much consternation amongst nearby runners when the reality of “no really, you should have that compass handy” actually hit home.

First male in 1:02:49 was Peter Davies of Dark Peak fell runners. First lady was Julie Darigala in 1:22:52 of Penistone. Being the only Strider present, I suppose I can also claim the distinction of first Strider home!

10/10 for low key fell running vibes, wizened men in split shorts and post-race chips in the aforementioned pub. Would recommend.
