Race date: Tuesday, 31 December 2019; race distance: 6.8 miles (325m climbing)
The Bowstones are a pair of 1000-odd-year-old stones on a hill in Cheshire. Their fell race is organised by Bramhall Runners, from Stockport. It’s probably not 1000 years old, but it does come with a bottle of beer for all finishers.
The race was won by Peter Bray of Chorlton Runners in 42:32, and first woman was our own Caroline Brock in 50:18, almost 2 minutes clear of second place. 435 runners finished, the last of whom was the sole V70 in the race, Roger Ashby, who to judge by an old BBC news story about him is now 76 years old.
