Race Date: Sunday 17th February 2019
Wolf Pit fell race is the first in The Gritstone series, it’s described as ‘short event’, 9km/5.6 miles with 450 metres of ascent, and categorised as an AS race, and interesting required full FRA kit.
This is a lovely race, well organised, marshalled and thoroughly enjoyable. We were treated to typical March weather with sunshine challenging the winds and gales throughout the race, adding to the energy and atmosphere of the event. The race starts with a run down the field, up the lane and then a nice big climb up fields, it then undulates and culminates with a dash back down the field as fast as possible. Sheer fun. A big shout out must go to the hardy marshals, who stood firm against the winds, rain, gale and hail, and gave encouragement and helpful advice (watch the rock, and the mud is very slippery) in very challenging conditions. A worthy rightful place in The Fell Race Championship.
The race was won by Greg Hopkinson of Beeston AC in 43.24. The first woman home was Caitlin Rice of Ribble Valley Harriers in 49.47
