Winter Tour Bradwell (17.5 miles) Results and Report 2019

Race Date: Saturday 9th February 2019

Report by Fran Cummins

After enjoying the summer version of this race last year, I happily entered the winter version, knowing it is a great route with friendly marshals and very tasty post race homemade soup  – of which 3 different types were on offer this year!  And all for £12, a real bargain.

The morning of the race arrived and Storm Erik was in full force. But 50mph winds, although many parkruns were cancelled, wasn’t going to stop 124 hardy runners tackling Cavedale, Lose Hill, Win Hill and Wolf’s Pit.  At one point  I was completely swept off my feet – but it all added to the fun of the day!

This year a new ending had been added  – from Shatton the route took you all the way up to Wolf’s Pit before a very steep descent over Bradwell Moor.   After 3 long ascents and 15 miles, this extra climb was a very tough addition!  It also added on an extra 1.5 miles to the advertised route.

Bradda Dads, the organisers, also organise a summer version, Wolf’s Pit fell race and new to this year, a relay of the old full tour.  The races are always really friendly, with brilliant post race food and great value for money.

124 runners completed the winter tour.  The men’s race was won by Adam Taylor from Dark Peak in 2.24.40.  The woman’s race was won by Hynda Hardaker, from Keighley and Craven in 2.48.36.

4 striders ran.
