Race Date: 10th February 2019
Report by Michael Richardson
Anyone familiar with the North Lincolnshire Half Marathon will be familiar with the start, finish, and parts of this route. Finishing on the track of Quibell Park the Valentine’s 10k is a flat fast 10km providing ample opportunities for an early season 10km PB.
The conditions on the day were almost perfect. The day before winds were gusting up to 50mph but fortunately on race day they had calmed down to a 10mph breeze. Lining up at the start were some familiar faces such as GB athlete Gemma Steel and our own elite Sian Evans.
The course was flat, with the biggest hill being a bridge over the motorway. A breeze was present on the way out but that didn’t stop some fast times being recorded. A fast finish was guaranteed as the last 300 meters were run on the athletics track. A number of people recorded PBs with Sian putting in an amazing performance to equal the Senior Ladies 10km Road Record which has stood since 1991. Looks like there could be plenty of business going Ashleigh’s way this year printing up commemorative t shirts.
The race was won by Shaun Robinson (unattached) in 30:54. First lady was Gemma Steel in 34:31. Striders taking part were:
