Race Date: Sunday 22nd September 2019
After last year’s record attendance of 9 entrants, this year we were back down to the 3 Ultra stalwarts plus a winning debut from Jo Taylor. Welcome to the Sheffield Way Ultra club, Jo. Jo becomes only the second female to complete the Ultra.
The weather was mixed and we all (ultra and relay runners) got hit with some pretty severe rain during leg 2. The rain did hold off just long enough to nearly get dry before the next deluge came – and that was the pattern of the day. However, spirits were not dampened and full enjoyment was to be had in my favourite race of the year.
This year we had an added bonus of a pint waiting for us at the Bridge Inn at Ford, (leg four/five changeover) and to be honest it barely touched the sides. Very refreshing it was and just what the doctor ordered for miles 38 to 46! Sadly Steve Haake picked up a niggling knee injury shortly after his pint and has to retire at mile 41. He will be back next year though!
I highly recommend this run toany would be ultra runner. 95% of this course is stunning and shows how lucky we are to live in and around Sheffield.
