Run Jump Throw Track meeting 1 2019 Result and Report

Race date:  Friday 19th April 2019

Report by Tony Bell.

The first of this summer’s City of Sheffield AC “Run Jump Throw” meetings took place at the Woodbourn Road track on 19th April (Good Friday). After training in the cold and dark on Monday nights all winter it was strange to arrive at the track at lunchtime in warm sunshine. I was down to do the 1000m racewalk.

Last summer I finished 2nd out of 2 in a 1000m walk race at this track, this year we increased the number of competitors by 50% to 3. Two of my young training partners were competing with me.

We had as many judges as competitors for our 2.5 laps of the track. Natalie zoomed away at the start and I followed Lucy. 2.20 for 400m, at 500m I overtook Lucy. 4.44 at 800m, it was getting tough at the end but I kept going to finish 2nd in 5.56.

That was hard work, especially 5 days after the Sheffield half marathon. It didn’t help it being the first warm day of the year. Still I supported the event, hopefully they will continue to include race walking in these meetings.

I couldn’t stay to watch any more events, I know that other Striders competed. It was nice to see Kate Scott just before I left.
